Declare house property, other income and previous employer income
Add home-loan interest and rental income, interest or commission income, and salary from a previous employer this year, so your TDS is correct.
On this page
Some income and losses outside your salary affect the tax your employer must deduct. Declare them in Manage Tax while the declaration window is open.
Before you start
- The Investment declaration window must be open.
- Keep your documents ready: home-loan interest certificate, rent agreement, interest certificates, Form 16A / 26AS and your previous employer's payslips or Form 12B.
Add a house property
- Go to My Finances ( open My Finances), then Manage Tax → Declaration.
- Open the House Property tab and click Add property.
- Choose Self occupied, Let out property or Both, then click Next.
- Enter the property address and the lender's name and PAN.
- Enter the Interest on housing loan (₹). For a let-out property, also enter Rent received in the year (₹) and Municipal tax paid (₹).
- Click Save property. The table shows the income or loss from house property used in your tax.
Under the old regime, interest on a self-occupied home is capped at the limit shown. Under the new regime it isn't allowed, and a let-out loss can't be set off against salary.
Add other income and TDS/TCS
- Open the Other Income & TDS/TCS tab.
- Under Income, enter Net interest received, Commission income and Other professional income.
- Under Tax already paid, enter TDS on other income and TCS collected.
- Click Save.
This income is added to your total income, and the tax already paid on it is credited against the TDS on your salary. Savings-bank interest goes under Other Deductions (80TTA) instead.
Add income from a previous employer
If you joined after 1 April, include what you earned earlier in the financial year.
- Open Manage Tax → Previous Income.
- For each month before you joined, enter Gross, Basic, HRA, EPF, Professional tax, Income tax and the other columns from your previous payslips or Form 12B.
- Put exemptions your previous employer already allowed under Other tax-free, and perquisites not in gross under Other taxable.
- Click Save previous income.
The previous salary and tax are included in your projected annual tax and TDS. If you joined on or before 1 April, there are no months to fill in.
