Set company preferences and employee codes
Choose your financial year, company date format, time zone and how new employee codes are numbered.
On this page
Company preferences apply to everyone in your organisation. They set the financial year used for payroll and TDS, the company's date format, its time zone, and the format of new employee codes.
Before you start
- You need the Organization settings permission.
- These are company-wide. Each person can still pick how dates are shown to them — see Personalise your display, colours and date format.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Organization and open the Preferences tab ( open Preferences).
- Choose when your Financial year starts. For Indian payroll and TDS, this is April.
- Choose a Date format: DD-MM-YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY.
- Choose your Time zone. Most Indian companies use Asia/Kolkata.
- Under Employee code, enter a Prefix (up to 10 letters, digits, - _ or /), for example
EMPorACME-. - Enter the Number of digits, from 1 to 8. The Next code box shows a preview, for example EMP0001.
- Click Save preferences.
What happens next
- New employees get the next code in your format automatically. The confirmation message shows an example.
- Existing employee codes are not changed. Codes stay unique, and a code you type in by hand is never overwritten.
Note
Employee codes are also how the Mark Attendance API identifies employees, so settle on a format before you connect other systems.
