Create leave types

Leave types are the kinds of time off your company offers. Each type carries its own policy. You can start from ready-made Indian standard types and adjust them.

Before you start

• You need manage access to leave. View-only users can see the types but not change them.

Add a standard leave type

1. Go to Leave → Leave Types in the left menu ( open Leave Types).
2. Under Add a standard leave type (or Start with standard leave types the first time), click a template:
   • Casual Leave, Sick Leave, Earned Leave, Floater Leave, Bereavement Leave, Compensatory Off, Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Leave Without Pay.
3. The type is added with sensible rules. Click Edit on it to review them.

Create a custom leave type

1. Click New leave type.
2. Under Basics, enter the Name, a short Code (for example WFH or STL), a Colour and an optional Description.
3. Tick the options that apply:
   • Paid leave — leave off means unpaid leave (LWP), which is cut from salary as loss of pay.
   • Tracks a balance — untick for unlimited types such as LWP or on-duty.
   • Comp-off type — the balance comes only from approved comp-off claims.
   • Active — employees can apply for it.
4. Set the policy rules in the other sections — see Leave policy rules explained.
5. Click Save.

Switch off or delete a type

• Click the pause button to switch a type off. Employees can no longer apply for it, but history and balances stay. Click play to switch it back on.
• Click the bin to delete it. Its balances are removed too, so prefer switching off for types that were ever used.

Set up balances

A new type has no balances until the accrual runs. Go to Leave → Leave Balances → Accrual & year-end and run the accrual — see Run leave accrual and year-end.
