Assign shifts to employees

Give employees a shift from a date, add a second shift for split or overlapping work, and end an assignment.

Each employee needs a shift so Attendex knows when they are expected. You can assign a shift to many people at once, effective from a date.

Before you start

  • Create the shift first — see Create and edit shifts.
  • Employees without an assignment use your default shift. Their days carry the flag No shift assigned — default shift used.

Assign a shift

  1. Go to Time & Attendance → Shifts ( open Shifts).
  2. Click the Assignments tab.
  3. In Assign a shift, choose the Shift.
  4. Set From — the first day the shift applies.
  5. Under How, choose:
    • Replace their current shift(s) — the normal choice when someone changes shift.
    • Add as an additional shift (overlapping / split) — for people who work two blocks in a day, or who may work either of two shifts.
  6. Tick the Employees (use the filter box or Select all).
  7. Click Assign.

How several shifts are handled

When an employee has more than one shift, each punch-in is matched to the nearest shift start (within the nearest-shift threshold in the attendance policy). A split day is worked as two blocks on one attendance row.

End an assignment

  1. In Current assignments, find the employee.
  2. Click the small × next to the shift and confirm.

From today the employee works their remaining shift(s), or the default shift.

Roster beats assignment

If an employee has a roster entry for a date, the roster wins over their assignment for that day. See Plan a shift roster.
