What Present, Late, Half day, Short hours, Missing punch, Absent, On leave, Holiday and Week off mean, and how each one is paid.

Every attendance day gets one status. The status decides how the day is paid. This page lists every status, the code you see in the monthly register, and how it is worked out.

The statuses

StatusRegister codeWhen you get itPaid as
PresentPEffective hours reach the shift's full-day hours.Full day
LateP (with *)Present, but the first punch came after the shift start plus grace.Full day — late still counts as present
Half dayHDEffective hours reach the half-day hours but not the full-day hours.Half day
Short hoursSHBoth punches exist but effective hours are below the half-day hours. Not paid (loss of pay) unless corrected
Missing punchMPOnly one punch for the shift (usually no punch-out).Not paid unless regularized
AbsentAA working day with no punch and no approved leave, once the day is closed. Not paid (loss of pay)
On leaveL (or the leave code)Approved full-day leave on a working day.Paid if the leave type is paid; loss of pay if unpaid
HolidayHSomeone worked on a holiday — all time worked counts as overtime.Holiday is paid anyway
Week offWOSomeone worked on a weekly off or a roster OFF day.Week off is paid anyway

Holidays and weekly offs on which nobody punched don't need a record — they are simply not working days.

How the thresholds work

  • Full day after (h) and Half day after (h) come from the employee's shift. See Create and edit shifts.
  • An unpaid break is deducted from the time between first-in and last-out before comparing.
  • An approved half-day leave plus enough hours for a half day gives Half day, with the leave covering the other half.

Flags you may see

The Attendance page also shows small flags next to a status, for example:

  • No shift assigned — default shift used
  • Punch far from any shift start
  • Punched outside the office geofence
  • Late on a punch-workflow step
  • Worked on a holiday / week-off
  • Work from home (approved) and On duty / work from home
  • Partial day (approved)

Flags don't change pay on their own. They help you spot days to check.

Manual and regularized days

  • A Manual badge means an admin locked the status. The engine will not change it until someone sets the day back to Automatic.
  • A regularized day was corrected through an approved request. Its punches were replaced, and the status was recalculated.
Note

How each status turns into payable days and loss of pay is covered in How leave and attendance affect payroll.
