Holidays and weekly offs
Build your holiday calendar, add location-specific and optional holidays, and set which days of the week are off.
Holidays and weekly offs are the days nobody is expected to work. They are not counted as absent, they are skipped when counting leave days, and work done on them counts as overtime.
Add a holiday
- Go to Time & Attendance → Holidays ( open Holidays).
- Use the arrows to pick the year.
- Click Add holiday.
- Enter the Name and Date.
- Choose a Type: National, Regional, Religious, Company, Optional or Restricted.
- Choose a Location, or keep All locations. A location-specific holiday applies only to employees of that location.
- Keep Paid ticked for a paid holiday.
- Tick Optional (employees choose) for a holiday that each employee may pick or skip.
- Click Save.
To change a holiday click the pencil; to remove it click the bin. If you delete a holiday that has already passed, that day is recalculated for everyone.
Optional (floater) holidays
- Optional and restricted holidays only become a holiday for employees who choose them.
- Employees pick them under Attendance → Calendar in the employee portal, up to the yearly limit you set in Optional holidays per year (see Attendance policy settings and office geofences).
- They can only be chosen or cancelled for future dates. The holidays list shows how many people availed each one.
- A leave type can be limited to optional holidays — see the floater rule in Leave policy rules explained.
Set weekly offs
- Go to organisation settings and open the Weekly off tab ( open Weekly off).
- Tick the Weekly off days (for example Sunday).
- Under Saturdays, choose Follow the tick above, All Saturdays working, 1st & 3rd Saturday off, 2nd & 4th Saturday off or Alternate Saturdays off.
- Click Save weekly off.
The new rule applies from today. Setting up locations and weekly offs during onboarding is also covered in Add work locations and set weekly offs. Weekly off days drive attendance, leave day-counts and payroll working days.
Employees on a roster follow their roster instead of the weekly off rule. See Plan a shift roster.
